Die Trauben für diesen Rotwein stammen aus dem Weinberg Poggio Valente, der in nächster Nähe des mittelalterlichen Ortes Pereta liegt. Die nach Süden ausgerichtete Rebfläche erstreckt sich in 250 m ü. d. M. über 10,1 ha.
Der skelettreiche Boden mit mittlerem Sandgehalt eignet sich von seiner Struktur her ganz besonders für die Erzeugung von Qualitätsweinen. Die Hälfte der Anlage wurde im zweiarmigen Kordonsystem mit fünf dicht gesetzten Sangiovese-Klonen neu bestockt. Der restliche Teil ist über 25 Jahre alt und besteht zu mehr als 90% aus Sangiovese Grosso-Reben, der Rest ist Alicante.
Die Ernte findet statt, wenn die Trauben bereits leicht überreif sind (meist im Oktober), wobei der Hektarertrag gewollt niedrig zwischen 4 und 5 t gehalten wird.
Die Gärung erfolgt in temperaturkontrollierten Edelstahltanks (max. 32°C). Der biologische Säureabbau läuft vollständig in kleinen, neuen oder einmal benutzten 225-Liter-Fässern aus französischer und zu 15% aus amerikanischer Eiche ab.
Nachdem der Wein 10 bis 14 Monate in Barriques reift, wird er einer Filtrierung und Schönung unterzogen und anschließend, etwa 18 Monate nach der Ernte, in Flaschen abgefüllt.

The history of Poggio Valente began in 1996 when Elisabetta decided to buy a beautiful, 12-hectare-vineyard near Pereta. The project aimed to immediately replace about half the vineyard and, at the moment of making a choice, Elisabetta decided to invest all – once again – in Sangiovese. Consequently, four Sangiovese clones were selected and since 1997, in Poggio Valente they have produced a Morellino di Scansano Cru that is much loved and awaited year on year by the most demanding palates. In 2006, the last harvest of the old vineyard took place. The adventure begins again and… the project started ten years ago has been concluded with the replanting of the remaining area of the vineyard.
